The Dorkfood Sous Vide Temperature Controller has properties that are very similar to other immersion circulators, however it is slightly different. The Dorkfood controller is even smaller in size and is not actually “immersed” in the water along with the food, although it still falls in the category of an immersion circulator.
Specs At A Glance
- Precise temperature control
- The temperature is monitored via the integrated probe
- Can you use you own containers
The Dorkfood Sous Vide Temperature Controller does not actually give off heat, therefore it requires pairing with a cooking device that has its own heat source. A non-digital crockpot or non-digital rice cooker are ideal devices to pair with the Dorkfood controller. Plug your crockpot or rice cooker into the temperature controller, then plug the temperature controller into a power outlet. Next, put the controller’s probe into the water bath. The controller is now ready to be used.
The controller has 3 buttons and is very simple to use. There are two arrow buttons to control the temperature and a set button. Toggle the arrow buttons until you have reached your ideal temperature and then press the “set” button. Another advantageous fact about this device is that it is much cheaper in price than other sous vide machinery on the market. The Dorkfood Sous Vide Temperature Controller is cheaper than its competitors so if you are looking to spend a little less the Dorkfood will meet that criteria
One downfall to this controller is that it must be paired with a cooking device that has its own heat source. Even further, not every heat source device is compatible with the controller. Be sure to check the manufacturer’s website to ensure that you own a cooking device that is compatible with the controller.
Disadvantages
- The product is only a probe that is added to a container
- It does not circulate the water so the food is not cooked with an even temperature like the immersion circulators
